O.T. THESIS: Part 5

(0) Therefore, in view of all the quoted appearances to
old testament people, when a new testament passage of scripture states "no man bath seen God at any"61, can very possibly be understood to mean that no man has seen Him face to face in His Glory and comprehended Him fully as "the only begotten son, which is in the bosom of the Father, and bath declared him."

The manifestations of God to man are what is described as a "Theophany", in the English language. The meaning of Theophany might be described as follows: "the manifestation or appearance of deity to man. To the Pagan Greeks, theophany meant every sensuous sign whereby deity revealed its approach. As now used, it is generally applied to the appearance of God described in the Old Testament, as in Gen. III and XVIII. Earlier it was applied to the manifestation of God in Christ."62

The Bible mentions many other references to his revealing Himself to various people in various ways other than by visable appearances, which are too numerous to quote every page of Holy writ as He reveals Himself in words and actions. This revelation of God is the bases of our faith in the existance of God, and makes this an entirely reasonable faith. God's revelation in nature alone gives evidance of His existance."63
Without dwelling any further on the existance of God, and His appearances to men, we will proceed to His covenants
with man, as revealed in the Old Testament, and attempt to highlight His love for His people.
